To get around

Hiking

The most famous hiking path, the so-called Blue coastal trail, is 12 km long and runs along the coast through all five villages, which offers spectacular views. Some trails can be temporarly closed due to landslides so for updated information consult http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/   If the coastal trails are closed, you can follow the routes that pass higher up the mountain.

Train

The trains are the least expensive and fastest way to travel between the villages, but don’t expect them to be panoramic (because the trains pass through tunnels nearly the entire time). If you are arriving by train from elsewhere in Italy, it is highly likely that you will have to change trains in La Spezia or Levanto. The special trains, Cinque Terre Express, run every 20 minutes from mid March until 1st of November. The Cinque Terre Card includes unlimited train travel on the La Spezia - Levanto line, free use of the eco buses and free access to the coastal trail, the only one that requires payment. You will need to fill in your first and last name on the back in pen. Before taking your first train on the day you plan to use the card, you will need to first stamp the Cinque Terre Card in one of the Trenitalia validating machines at the train station.

Boat

Taking the boat at least once is highly recommended as the view of the villages from the sea gives the opportunity to admire the colorful houses from an exceptional point of view. Don’t forget the ferries don’t stop in Corniglia and run dependent on sea & weather conditions.
